Gunslinger Clayton Drumm (Fabio Testi) is spared from hanging when he agrees to kill an aging gunfighter (Warren Oates) who refuses to sell his land to the railroad. Clayton can't bring himself to kill the man and ends up running off with his wife.
Trivia: The film's title refers to the location of Warren Oates' farm, 9 miles from the town of China, 37 miles from the town of Liberty. Jenny Agutter (Catherine) starred in 1976's sci-fi thriller Logan's Run and the 1981 cult classic An American Werewolf in London. Warren Oates starred in Sam Peckinpah's classic movie The Wild Bunch. Peckinpah himself makes a cameo appearance here as an East Coast dime novel writer.
